About Paul

Paul

After completing my CELTA at York English Language Center in 2006, I moved to Japan to start my English language teaching career. I followed up the CELTA with a master’s degree in TEFL from the University of Birmingham in 2012, and a master’s degree in Technology-Enhanced Learning from Lancaster University in 2024. I currently teach English at Japanese universities and pursue research and development of CALL (Computer-Assisted Language Learning) and TELL (Technology-Enhanced Language Learning) applications and interventions.

I have developed several web-based language teaching and learning platforms, including ABAX LMS, which powers the e-learning behind ABAX’s award-winning ELT publications, and ZenGengo, which is used by hundreds of teachers and thousands of students around the world to teach and learn a variety of languages. ZenGengo also powers the e-learning behind the publications of Perceptia Press, another award-winning Japan-based publisher of ELT textbooks.

Most recently, in the wake of generative AI, I founded and developed Eigo.AI, which I believe to be the world’s first fully AI-powered four-skills platform for English language learners. While exploring the power of GenAI to enhance both language teaching and learning, I also firmly believe in the continued importance of human teachers in both formal and informal language learning.
